Autometer Boost Gauge :: Subaru Impreza RB5 Owners Club
The Impreza Turbo (as the name suggests) uses a Turbocharger to increase the power from it's 2.0 litre engine. Turbocharger's allow an engine to burn more fuel and air by packing more into the existing cylinders. The MY99/00 Impreza runs around 0.9bar (13.7psi) of boost. To monitor the cars performance and to diagnose if the car is running the correct boost, it is essential to fit a boost gauge.
There are loads of different gauges on the market, but all of them do the same job. I managed to get an Autometer Ultra-Lite 52mm mechanical boost gauge from J-Spec along with their A-pillar pod. This mounts the gauge onto the existing window pillar to the right of the steering wheel.
The Autometer kit itself is very basic. Just the gauge itself, some vacuum hosing (3mm external diameter), various brass connectors and a bulb for illumination. Since the gauge is mechanical, the readings for vacuum and positive pressure are taken from inside the gauge itself.
